USS ELECTION CANDIDATES: spring 2018

CANDIDATES FOR MANNES:

1) Maftuna Tolipova

    Campaign Platform & Relevant Experience:

  • I would like to continue being a senator because I want Mannes students’ voice to be heard and help our school to improve in different ways. One of my aims that I hope to achieve is to open a small cafeteria in Arnhold. We had the meeting with the CoPA Deans to let them know about our ideas of opening new cafeteria. The work is still in progress and hopefully by the end of the spring 2018 semester we will have sandwich, coffee and tea station.
Additionally, I want to make The New School as one community rather than different separate divisions. I think we should have more collaborations with different divisions. For example, when Parsons have their exhibitions they can have Mannes students welcome guest with the music. When Mannes students have concerts, Parsons students can help with posters. As one can see there are a lot of ideas that needs to happen and I would love to help and be part of it.

2) Kyung Jun Kim

    Campaign Platform & Relevant Experience:

  • I am a multi-talented new graduate student at Mannes School of Music. I do assess different students' cultures and needs, and have both administrative and Christian creeds towards problem solvings, and wishing for better outcomes of both my works and works of the Mannes School of Music in New York, USA, for this academic year and half of next academic year. It starts from solving self-problems, and when these problems are all solved, I would go into solving bigger problems at school through attempts. As an international student, I am aware of Asian students' possible hardships and rarely feel the same way. I made wise business decisions, finished applying to Harvard University Graduate School of Arts and Science in Musicology, and completed a semester of Doctorate at University of North Texas. Then, I also finished dealing with it by the end of last year through my courses and free-choice recital and gave wonderful impressions to the Mannes while introducing myself.

    CANDIDATES FOR LANG:

    • My academic journey, as a transfer student, through many educational institutions, instilled a sense of versatility to my leadership, and strengthened my character amongst diverging settings and ideologies. I navigate The New School eager to take part in the academic successes of the next great scholars of our generation. The responsibility of representing the student body is directly related to individuals’ academic careers, providing resources for their extra-curricular endeavors, as well as enhancing their experience at the institution. Fostering such connection with the students asserts their satisfactory graduation, and subsequent successes in their professional fields — this responsibility of wide recognition is tied to students’ long-lasting achievements, much time after they graduate. The New School is a foundation of visionaries, breaking out of conformism. My heartfelt ambition is to represent Lang, and to contribute to the growth of The New School.
