The Parsons School of Design. You’ve made it. Well kinda. You’re at the best design school in the country if not the world. But it’s not perfect is it? I’m Yousuf and I’m here to help.
Grabbing the mic has always been an impulse – throughout my life I’ve looked for an excuse to get in front of a crowd. I have represented individuals of all manners throughout my scholastic career and I feel like my experience has primed me for such responsibility.
As your senator, I see a multitude of opportunities not only to serve you, my peers but I am ardent to improve the Parsons society; via both your input and the gentle nudge of my own ideas for what we can push for to make both student life and our college better. Examples?
Project El Greco: Take advantage of the visionary characters Parsons is able to attract, a public service-based group where students redecorate and help refurbish orphanages both nationally and globally.
Improve Activities outside of the classroom; possibilities?
Join forces with an engineering school and participate in the international undergrad formula E development league?
Revamping our student merch?
Student polls for celebrity guest speakers?
Student painting session on a building rooftop?
Vote Yousuf and I’ll make it my mission to push for not only these but for your assembly of other proposals. I have sought out roles of leadership from fourth grade all the way up to high school vice president.
So, for fresh ideas, and progression. Vote for Yousuf Ibrahim.
Student Representative council and vice president (4 years)
President of year book and prom committee (1 year)
Senior board of school model united nations program (4 years)
Head of intern design team for Gulf news (Middle Eastern Media agency)
Leader of Young entrepreneurs program SME project
Parsons has been the home for my studies in Architecture for the last 2 years. The immersion in a learning environment that not only fosters creativity, but focuses on sustainability has opened the doors for the possibilities that innovative design can have on the world around me. It’s my hope that through the student body I will be able to share the passion I have for the New School’s environmental impact with my fellow peers, and act as a mediating and empowering voice for the school as a whole.

My name is Ranya Kumar and I'm currently a BFA Student studying Interior Design, this is my first year. The experience has been overwhelming,I've been on a look out to join clubs which would interest me, however after meeting with some of the members of the senate I decided this would be a right path for me. I've always been a part of the decoration committee in my school, giving ideas, decorating the school hall ways ,making posters and managing events has been an integral part of my high school experience. In order to polish my techniques, I undertook professional courses at EdNet Prep School of Art and Design, New Delhi and Delhi Collage of Art. Over the past three years.Additionally, through my duties as a volunteer at the NGO, Save the Children, I have carried out street art with the motive to create awareness for the underprivileged communities regarding the hazards of open defecation and use of unclean water. Furthermore, my internship at Kapareva (an interior firm) helped me understand the value and complexities of interior design and decoration. It also taught me that a little bit of creativity goes a long way in uplifting a space. In this way, my internship made me analyse my own strengths and tastes. I come from the Indian community and would like to embrace my culture and tradition in some form or art or display.

I believe that I would be the best candidate because representation is about making sure every part and division of the university is represented. As a member of NSSR, I want to make sure the unique and valuable concerns of graduate students are known. It has come to my concern that certain concerns of the student-body of NSSR have not be addressed so I want to be their representative to cure this discrepancy.
People in Support of women in Philosophy Students for Justice in Palestine May Day Student Organization Graduate Faculty Student Senate Jewish Culture Club Black Student Union
I represent the NSSR and especially the Department of Philosophy, whose voice and opinion have long been underrepresented, or not presented at all, in the USS. NSSR, as the original school that initiated the dissenting journey of the New School, set a fierce, progressive, and radical model for the greater New School to come. At the time of the Centennial, I think the time is ripe for NSSR to gain its voice back and to contribute to the USS in whatever mode necessary, whether dissenting or supporting, to bring about what's better for all of us at The New School, and especially for those of us at the NSSR who has been quite voiceless.
NSSR Student Organization Participation: Committee Member, Graduate Student Conference // Active Participant, People in Support of Women in Philosophy // Nominee of Faculty Liaison, Department of Philosophy (Election pending) //// Undergraduate Student Organization Participation: Co-Chair, The Waltz Committee, St. John's College (Duties include drafting budgets for the club; planning campus-scale events; teaching students various styles of swing dancing, etc) // Secretary, The Delegate Council (student government), St. John's College (Duties include keeping minutes of the Council; setting agendas of meetings, coordinating with sub-committees of the Council, etc. Proposals drafted and passed include standardized budgeting procedure for the Council, civility law explication to include gender minorities, etc.)
I believe to be a good candidate for this position because of my thorough knowledge of NSSR's department dynamics. NSSR is a vital part of The New School and has contributed to the University's fame and celebrity worldwide. If elected, I would work hard to create a stronger connection between NSSR and the other Colleges of TNS, promoting the coherence of the student body as a whole and the organization of common initiatives. Being a student at the PhD level, I am not only well connected to PhD and grad students throughout other departments, but I am also extremely aware of the importance of student initiatives. Given my connection with the student body, I trust my ability of determining the relevance of events/initiatives organized by students from NSSR, as well as their coherence with the mission of The New School. Despite not having been a representative at The New School, I have been a representative in my previous university's University Senate (University of Pisa) and I am familiar with the duties and the implication of this position. I also gained a lot of experience acting as Treasurer of a research group, devoted to the organization/funding of academic conferences, Workshops, and other activities, and being involved in the allocation of funding.
Not yet involved in organizations at The New School. Academic University Senate (University of Pisa – 1 year): student representative Zetesis Research Project (University of Pisa– 3 years): treasurer
Hello, TNS Family! My name is Kat Schonheyder, and I am a Liberal Studies student in my first year at The New School’s NSSR. So! TLDR for busy folx; I am running for this position because it’s needed, and because I truly want to. Long Form: Even before I arrived at TNS, I’d done quite a bit of research into the history of The New School, its activism, student engagement, and the ways in which students can and have addressed issues that concern the experiences of its students. Not every school affords students this opportunity, so it is one I truly wish to be involved in. Being in the Liberal Studies program means I do and will continue to find myself in classes and collaboration with students all across the NSSR and TNS, and I intend to use this in working as an advocate for everyone who is a part of our community. In order to make our experience the best it can be, we need representatives in student government. In less than 6 weeks here, already I have heard both concerns and ideas from fellow students that the Student Senate can address. It’s my hope to represent the NSSR in this role so that I can play a part in fashioning a community that nourishes its students in both body and mind.
I cannot (yet!) claim any positions of leadership at The New School, but I will shortly be participating in the GSS Certificate student steering committee. In the meantime, I hope my participation in advocacy and volunteerism in my local community will serve to bolster my work if I am elected. Locally, I work with the Vanguard Independent Democratic Association of Brooklyn as a civic engagement educator to high school and elderly populations, and before that worked for four years as an advocate for disenfranchised voters in parts of Northern New Jersey.
Hey there, I’m Alex. I’ll keep this quick for all our sakes. As a first year graduate student I’ve spent the past month & change looking for ways to get involved with supporting the School of Public Engagement, and by extension, my newfound peers. I don’t think I’ve been here quite long enough to prove much in action so instead I’ll just note that I’ve worked more than enough job placements over the years to know the importance of standing by my word. And I want to help and will commit to nothing less if you’d be willing to give me the chance to do so.
I started and developed my own company for most of 2016 and 2017: we specialized in various forms of content development, customer services ce, and digital media marketing/management. Additionally most of our clients were in fashion, interior, or furniture design fields giving me plenty of experience crossing between creative fields whenever necessary. Since 2016 I’ve periodically worked as an Accommodations Exam Proctor for Hunter College High School, particularly I work in the Library where they place children with special needs and require proctors with both precise focus, and a hefty amount of patience. Since 2015 I’ve picked up additional content writing assignments when schedules allowed for such. Among recent gigs are a couple hundred voiceover scripts across Fandom’s wikia site(s), and just about all the text & product descriptions throughout a children’s design company’s three distinct websites.
